In this post, I am going to explain to you Basic Important points to remember before Septic Tank design

1. A minimum grade of concrete used for concreting on the practical basis – M20, but as per IS code 2470 Part-1, it is M15

2. The ratio of cement and sand mixture for plaster of Septic tank is 1:3 i.e, one part cement : 3 part sand

3. The minimum width of a septic tank on a practical basis is 900 mm, but as per IS code 2470 Part-1, it is 750 mm.

4. The minimum length of a septic tank should be (2 x width) and the maximum length of a septic tank should be (4 x width)

5. The minimum depth of a septic tank should be 1 meter, excluding the free board.

6. The minimum gap maintains for Free Board for gas removal purposes is 300 mm.

7. The minimum dia of the Inlet pipe should be 100 mm.

8. The minimum dia of the Outlet pipe should be 100 mm.

9. The minimum thickness of the Baffle wall should be 75 mm.

10. The minimum dia of the Vent pipe should be 75 mm.

11. The baffle wall should be extended 150 mm above the scum level or water level.

12. The minimum dia of manhole cover should be 500 mm.

13. The inlet pipe drip down 300 mm to 600 from the scum level.

14. The outlet pipe drip down 300 mm to 500 from the scum level.
